Another treadmill day

It just seems easier to jump on my treadmill rather than venture out into the hills of the neighborhood.  Shouldn’t it be the opposite?

Ran 35 minutes

3.5 miles

6.0 speed

Gradually increased the speed 0.1mph for the last 5 quarter mile stretches.  Ended at 6.5mph.  It was a good run.  I felt great.  I was getting a little bored at 6.0; my breathing was great and I felt like I could kick it up a bit.  I waited until I got to 2.75 miles and then gradually increased the speed.  I got my heartrate up a bit more and felt great at the end of my run.

Sluggish Monday

3.5 miles on treadmill
First 2.75 miles at 6.0 mph
.25 miles at 6.1
.25 miles at 6.3
.25 miles at 6.5

Sluggish. Very tired after a busy, busy weekend. Spent Saturday at the Garage Sale and Block Party. Non-stop for 13 hours! Sunday was Billygoat Picnic and then cooking for about 5 hours and entertaining friends for dinner. I am tired, but now that the run is over, I’m feeling great!

Treadmill

3.0 miles
6.0 speed on treadmill
1.0 incline
for the last 0.25 mile, I increase speed to 6.5. That added a little punch to the end.

It felt great running today. I was wearing my iPod which is currently filled with world music from Africa. There were some great beats that kept my energy up.

I also thought a bunch (isn’t that what running is for?) I’ve decided that I’d like to try to capture some of these random thoughts I have while running.
1) I really like Cesaria Evora. Why don’t I listen to more of her music?
2) I love world music. It makes me feel in touch with a larger world and somehow makes me feel like I have a connection…certainly am appreciative of the different sounds.
3) I want to speak fluent French. Perhaps when things settle down a bit (maybe in the spring), I can take up classes again. I want to go to the Alliance Francais this time and not City College.
4) I really, really, really, really want to go on vacation and not think about work for a while.
5) I’m so proud that GeeNGee got this great grant to fix up our hill and neighborhood.
6) I want to start writing down ideas for future jobs/careers. I like projects…I like starting something new, I like working through things, and I definitely like completing them! I think I’d like working for the city improving the lives of people, maybe as a community liasion or executive director of a non-profit. I’d like to speak fluent french in a new job or work somehow with French correspondants, non-profits, etc. One day perhaps I’ll have a temporary job in France or even Quebec. Quebec is close to L’s family.

That’s all of the random thoughts I could think of today. I like that they are at least written now. Perhaps the next step is to begin an action plan to figure out exactly what it is that I will do next with my life!

Slacking already

I didn’t cross train today.  No real excuse either.  I didn’t schedule it into my day and all of a sudden the day was over.

I know that I’m better at lacing up my shoes and going out for a run rather than trying to figure out some other “cross-training” thing to do.  It’s not that I don’t enjoy other forms of exercise.  It just seems like it takes more planning than my over-scheduled self wants to deal with.

I’m hoping that this is motivation.  I don’t like to write about the fact that I’m a slacker.  Too many of these type posts and I’ll definitely cave into negative self talk.  May as well admit that I just did not make exercise a priority today and move on.

First day of Nike 1/2 Marathon training

Beginning my training for the Nike 1/2 marathon in October. I’m easing into it. Going to run 30 minutes every other day this week. Will do cross training and weight training on the alternate days.

Today: Ran with CC in the jog stroller to the library and back. That only took 18 mintues, so I ran the remainder of the run on my treadmill. 12 minutes at 6 speed.
